Annique and Jason

The Engagement

Our third date was to see our friend, Richard, play in the Emory Symphony. So on March 26th, 2016 when Jason told Annique they were going to see a Friends and Family concert at Emory, she didn’t expect anything out of the ordinary.

He came to pick her up but since they were a bit early for the concert, he suggested they stop at the nearby Caribou Coffee (the location of their first date). They sat down with their tea and Jason started mentioning how it felt like it had been forever since they’d first met, yet not that long ago, and how deeply they were in love. Annique’s first thought was, “Wait?! Is this it!!!!” closely followed by, “Oh no! I’m wearing flip flops! I left my heels in the car!” But, Jason changed the subject to more casual conversation. He was just faking her out.

They got in the car and drove to Emory. Jason explained it was a small concert because the symphony was getting ready for their big concert next week. It was more like a dress rehearsal for friends and family.

When they got there, they parked and walked over. When they walked into the lobby, there was a man standing there. He asked if they were there for the Friends and Family concert. They said “yes” and he said, “right this way” and opened the door to the symphony hall.

The first thing Annique noticed was that the symphony hall was empty except for four chairs and music stands on the stage. Jason took her hand and led her to row J which had a single red rose on the middle seat. Now speechless, Annique sat down.

As they sat, four musicians came out and played Borodin’s String Quartet No. 2. Annique was shaking as she held Jason’s hand during the private performance. Jason took great pleasure in knowing that Annique now knew what was happening but had to wait until the musicians finished playing.

After the musicians finished, they bowed and left the stage. Jason took Annique’s hand and led her to the center of the aisle. He got down on on one knee and proposed.

Well at least he tried to. Annique just said “YES!” before he finished speaking. “...And will you marry me?” Jason asked. Jason’s sister, Jamie, was hiding in the balcony to capture beautiful pictures of the surprise proposal.

To celebrate, Annique and Jason went to dinner at Leon’s, the location of their second date. Red roses and champagne were waiting for them at their table. After dinner, they sat on the same bench in Decatur Square where they sat on their second date. They reminisced and celebrated many happy days to come while sitting on the same bench where they first began to fall in love.
