Annique and Jason

Our Story

It all started in an airport hotel room in Frankfurt, Germany… when Jason decided to send an attractive young woman a thoughtful message on Match.com. A month (and a phone screen later) Annique met Jason for coffee at Caribou Coffee in Midtown, Atlanta. During the first date, they discussed their families (how they both called parents by first names as children), the best places to get produce in Atlanta, and their favorite insights from Adam Smith and F.A. Hayek. The second date conversation covered religion, children, gun control, and politics. Perhaps not what Ms. Manners would suggest for the first two dates! But, from the moment they met they both felt so comfortable with one another. By the end of the second date, they knew it was something special. At that point, Jason even asked Annique if she had any reservations that they were the right fit. She said, “No.”

When did Annique know Jason was the one?
I knew it was something special from about 15 minutes into our first date when I thought “why did I wear a fleece! I should have looked cuter!” But one story sums up why there’s no question he’s the one:

On our first weekend trip away together, we rented a cabin in the North Georgia Mountains. I read a few reviews and started flipping out because a few said they were dirty (they ended up being awesome). So when Jason calls to say he’s outside my apartment building to pick me up, I go downstairs… with a gigantic suitcase. I looked like I was ready to go on a round the world trip for a month. In my bag I had linens, Clorox bleach wipes, towels, pillows, etc. I get down to Jason’s car and start going towards the trunk. He says “there’s no room.” ‘No room?! How much does this guy pack?!’ I thought. He opens the trunk. He brought plates, pans, cutlery, a spatula, and Clorox bleach wipes. I knew he was the one for me!

When did Jason know Annique was the one?
Annique had a strong resume (Match.com profile). Before sending Annique the first message, I thought, “This girl looks really good on paper, and I really like that picture of her wearing the saree. I need to meet her.”  Thankfully she responded to my email! From the moment we met, it felt like we had already known each other for a lifetime. We had a lot of fun together and great conversation. After the third date I was telling people, “This one’s for real.”  Two months later, I went shopping for Annique’s Christmas present and found an antique, amber teapot. I remember thinking, I want to get something memorable that will remind Annique of our first Christmas….and something that will one day look great displayed in our future house together.
